Stepping Stones

Street connected children attend the Stepping Stones Centre on a day care basis enabling them to access food, showers, teaching of English and Maths, and recreation. The centre also provides medical care either on site or at hospitals and clinics.

All children need to feel secure and significant and this underpins every aspect of Gap Kenya’s work with these children.

The centre programme endorses their security and significance in very practical ways; days are structured so children know what to expect, and what is expected from them and staff are trained to show each child love and respect whilst leading the programme and maintaining discipline. The centre also provides counselling for the children, teaches alternative ways of behaving, and demonstrates their value and worth in God’s eyes.

The aim of this centre is to act as a ‘stepping stone’ between street life and family life to help children transition more easily should they choose to leave the streets.
